Landscape and environment
Research focuses on the ‘landscape’ object in all its dimensions: physical, material, visible, perceptual and iconographic. This subject is approached essentially through instrumented and quantitative approaches, on various spatio-temporal scales, from the site to the region, from a day to a millennium. Geographical analyses of the landscape involve other disciplines such as ecology, climatology, archaeology and geosciences. Research in the ‘Landscape and Environment’ area is divided into three sub-areas.
Head of research area : Nick Marriner
Scientifics networks
GDR 3062 “Polar Mutations”. As part of the GDR “Mutations Polaires” network and the international Circumpolar Arctic Vegetation Map and Circumpolar Symposium on Remote Sensing of Polar Environment programs, ThéMA collaborates with Norwegian botanists from the University of Tromsø and with geographers from Toulouse and Clermont-Ferrand. The work focuses on two areas: the relationship between climate and vegetation and hydro-glacial flows.
