Presentation
The research undertaken at ThéMA focuses on the design, development and use of quantitative geographic methods for the analysis of spatial structures and dynamics. These cover a broad spectrum, from basic to applied research, including:
- theoretical approaches: urban models, stakeholder games, ontologies of geographic information;
- novel approaches for data acquisition in the field: surveys and sensors in Arctic environments, collection of mobility behaviors using new technologies of information and communication... ;
- the design and development of spatial modeling methods: spatial and landscape metrics, analysis of transport networks, simulation and spatial forecasting tools.
Part of the research is carried out to aid decision-making in land-use planning, to improve living environments and to facilitate sustainable development. ThéMA has expertise in the development of geographic software and territorial observatories.
