I am PhD student at the ThéMA laboratory (University Bourgogne Franche-Comté) under the supervision of D. Joly and F. Tolle.  My research is focused on the evaluation of the response of a small arctic glacier to the climate shift (Austre Lovénbreen, Svalbard). Using GIS and statistical modeling, the aim of my thesis is i) to contribute to the understanding of the glacier mass balance temporal and spatial variability, and ii) to qualify and quantify the snow dynamics in the catchment hillsides and their contribution to the final hydrological runoff.

Quantification of the relationship between the cryosphere and the climate of the Austre Lovén glacier (Spitsberg)

Arctic is a region where the ongoing climate shift is one of the most important. In this context, glaciers are known to be good indicators of these modifications especially in Spitsbergen where they cover up to 60% of the island. Integrated to a series of research programs focused on the “source to sink” dynamics of the Austre Lovén glacier (78°N), my work is to describe, understand and model the influence of climatic and nivological factors on the mass balance (2007-2017). Moreover, because of the large area occupied by hillsides in the catchment (34%), I also want to qualify and quantify their contribution to the glacier mass balance and the annual hydrological balance. The data used for this work has miscellaneous nature: temperature from sensors, manual and Lidar snow depth measurements, etc. Data processing and analysis are done using GIS and statistical models.
