What does the error message "An Error has occurred : Java.lang.OutOfMemoryError : Java Heap Space" mean?

The error message means that Graphab does not have enough memory to perform the processing.

You must increase the memory available for Graphab in the menu File -> Preferences -> Memory. You can increase it up to the limit of your computer's RAM minus 1 GB.

After having modified it, re-run Graphab and check if the memory in the Graphab preferences has been modified.

I tried to modify the memory available as indicated, but each time I start Graphab again the value has not changed. The changes in the number of core available are saved.
I work on macOs 13.6.3, and my java version is the following (optained with java -version on a terminal) :
java version "17.0.4" 2022-07-19 LTS Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 17.0.4+11-LTS-179) Java HotSpot (TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 17.0.4+11-LTS-179, mixed mode, sharing)

What is the amount of memory (RAM) of your computer ?
What is the memory in Graphab and the value expected.
Can you launch Graphab from the terminal ?
The command : java -jar graphab-2.8.x.jar
What is displayed in the terminal after launching Graphab ?

Hi,
Thank you for your quick answer !
My computer has 8 go of RAM. The value in graphab was 2.25 Go with 6 expected.
After launching graphab from the terminal it displays
févr. 11, 2024 x:xx:xx PM org.thema.common.JavaLoader forkJava INFO: Launch JVM : java -Xmx15360m -cp graphab-2.8.6.jar org.thema.graphab.MainFrame --nofork

and it works ! This time when I go to settings the memory has changed as expected. I tried changing it again and it does change when loading graphab throught the terminal.

Hello,

I tried to follow your instruction (modify the memory available) and it worked but still I have an error message : "An error occurred : java.lang.RuntimeException: java.lang.OutofMemoryError : Java heap space.

Do you have any idea why ?

For which graphab calculation do you get this error?

You have 2 solutions :

increase the memory (RAM) of your computer
reduce the calculation :
- reduce the number of cores/processors used by Graphab in menu File -> Preferences -> Processors
- reduce the raster landscape map : coarser resolution or smaller area
- for linkset calculation, set a maximum distance

I am trying to create a project with a raster based on the land map of the Greater Nancy Metropolis. But I think I understand where the problem comes from in my case. My raster had a resolution of 1m x 1m. I changed it into 2m x 2m and it seems to work.
