Getting to the Laboratory

The ThéMA Research Laboratory is based in the town-centre of Besançon (Franche-Comté, France). In this section you’ll find some general information on where Besançon is located.

The simplest way to get to Besançon (from within France or from abroad) is to take the train, or fly to Paris or the Basel-Mulhouse airport and then take train over. Everyday, there are several direct trips from some of France’s biggest cities like Paris, Lyon and Strasbourg.

Once you’ve reached the train station in Besançon, you can get to the ThéMA Laboratory...

...By bus

...On foot

However, if you prefer to drive here, you can get to Besançon by the A36 highway (there are three exits leading to the town). Once you get near the town-centre, avoid driving into the town-centre itself. Within the “loop of the Doubs River”, where the heart of the town is located, traffic regulations are very strict and you’ll be very lucky to find a parking space. Park your vehicle at one of the parking areas located along the Doubs River and walk the rest of the way. See map.
